  1. SAM Driver for Blazie Engineering Braille Lite
  2.  
  3. This is a fully functional SAM driver for use with the Blazie Engineering Braille Lite. This includes 18, 20 (Millennium) and 40 cell models.

  5. The driver works in both Windows 95 and Windows NT.
  6.  
  7. To use this driver, the Braille Lite must be set to Speech Box mode with the following serial port parameters:

  9. 9600 baud, no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, full duplex, hardware handshake.

  11. To set these parameters, go into the Status Menu in the Braille Lite by pressing dots 34 chord. To skip directly to the baud rate parameter, press B (dots 12).

  13. To Enter Speech Box mode, press dot 345 chord followed by dots 1234 chord.
  14. All keys on the Braille Lite then go to the screen reader and are not processed by the Braille Lite (except dot 345 chord).

  16. In order to return your Braille Lite to normal operation, exit Speech Box mode by pressing dots 345 chord followed by dots 1234 chord again.

  20. Please report any bugs to Dolphin. If it crashes please tell us the crash address and registers etc, from the crash message box, also report the driver version number (check with explorer - file properties).

  26. Restrictions
  27. The speech synthesiser in the Braille Lite is not used.
  28. Sometimes character input from the Braille Lite may be lost.  If you experience this, try using a static cursor instead of a blinking one (see your screen reader documentation for details).

  30. Key assignments
  31. The following lists the default keys to press for each Braille operation.
  32. Your screen reader may not support some of these operations.
  33. The key assignments are the same for Braille Lite 18, 20 and 40, except where the Braille Lite 18 and 20 have one advance bar whereas the 40 has two, and where the Braille Lite 20 has two whiz wheels.

  39. Right edge of window: Dot 6
  40. Move one line up: Dot 1

  43. Move right one character: Dots 4 6
  44. Read backwards: (18) Bar left, (40) Left bar left
  45. Read forwards: (18) Bar right, (40) Right bar right
  46. Switch to Attribute mode 1: Dot 2
  47. Switch to Attribute mode 2: Dots 1 3 4 6
  48. Switch to report mode: Dots 3 4
  49. Toggle focus tracking: Dots 1 2 3 5
